New Darwen live music venue - 3 in a Bar


A new live music venue is opening its doors for the first time in Darwen on Friday 28th May.

The venue, called 3 in a Bar, is located on Belgrave Square in the centre of Darwen and will feature live music from bands playing jazz & soul music.

Whilst opening the doors for the first time this Friday, the bar will be welcoming a number of acts to co-incide with Darwen Music Live including:

Blackburn with Darwen Brass Band Quartett (12pm-1pm)
John Wickam Trio (1.50pm - 2.30pm)
Cherry B's (2.45pm-4.30pm)
Paul Rigby & The Northern Jazz Orchestra (11.30pm - 2am)

Move to improve Darwen shop front appearances

“Terrible” shop shutters along the main route through Darwen are making the town look derelict, according to town councillor John East.

He suggests that one way to brighten things up a bit would be to paint the shutters, improving shop exteriors and says the town council should be coming up with ideas to give Darwen a better appearance.

The development committee of Darwen Town Council is now looking into the possibility of a carrying out the painting scheme.

Conservative candidate Jake Berry wins Darwen seat

It was declared early this morning that Conservative candidate Jake Berry is the new MP for Rossendale and Darwen after receiving 41.7% of the vote.

Mr Berry, who replaces Labour's Janet Anderson following 18 years as MP for the consituency, has promised to serve the residents - whatever their political persuassion and thanked the previous MP for the work she's done since 1992.

Full local results as follows:

  • Jake Berry (Conservative) 41.7%, 19,691 votes
  • Janet Anderson (Labour) 32.1%, 15,198 votes
  • Robert Sheffield (Liberal Democrats) 18.1%, 8,541 votes
  • David Duthie (UK Independence Party) 3.4%, 1,617 votes
  • Kevin Bryan (National Front) 2.2%, 1,062 votes
  • Michael Johnson (English Democrats) 1.4%, 663 votes
  • Tony Melia (Impact Party) 0.5%, 243 votes
  • Mike Sivieri (Independent) 0.2%, 113 votes
