Darwen FC Hammered 5 - 0 In Opening Game of Season

Darwen FC got off to the wort possible start to the new season with a 5-0 defeat to new side AFC Liverpool.

AFC Liverpool were only formed earlier this year and entered to begin the clubs first season in the Vodkat League Division One with the likes of Darwen.

Following in the footsteps of FC United, AFC Liverpool was set-up by football fans, for football fans as a genuine grassroots, not for profit club. It is aimed to benefit fans of Liverpool FC who have been priced out of Premiership games.

Clubs like FC United, established by Manchester United fans in 2005 following Malcolm Glaziers controversial take over of Man Utd, aim to provide affordable football for the whole family to enjoy. With ticket prices sometimes 1/10th of those being charged by their premiership counter parts it certainly allows football to be a family day out again without having to payout huge amounts of money.

In the three seasons since FC United were founded they've been promoted on every occasion and if this opening result of AFC Liverpool is anything to go by it's clear they stand a good chance of achieving something similar!

At half-time there was only 1 goal separating the two sides but when AFC Liverpool striker Thurston converted a penalty within 2 minutes of the restart things quickly turned from bad to worse with the same player netting again shortly after.

At 3-0 the game was past Darwen and goals from Ryan Wignall and James Croxton completed a miserable start to the new campaign. Next up is Holker Old Boys at home on Tuesday 12th August.
