On Friday the 8th of May, Darwen Vale High School presented a musical evening performance by the pupils of the school and ‘The Blackburn with Darwen Music Service Big Band’.
The Darwen Vale School Orchestra opened the first half of the evening with a spirited rendition of James Bond movie themes. There followed a most enjoyable programme of solo and group performances. The first half of the evening ended with three numbers from the School Choir, including a Beatles number, ‘Penny Lane’.
We particularly enjoyed the duet ‘You can’t stop the Beat’ and a trio rendition of ‘Hallelujah’ from ‘Shreck’. All items were performed with great enthusiasm and were a tribute to hard work of the Music Department and pupils of Darwen Vale High School.
‘The Blackburn with Darwen Music Service Big Band’, directed by Paul Rigby, featured in the second half of the evening. After a somewhat confused start the audience was entertained with a series of popular numbers all performed to a high standard concluding with the number ‘Street Life’– Joe Sample.
It was the first time that we had seen ‘The Blackburn with Darwen Music Service Big Band’ in action and we were very impressed with their performance.
