Christmas Wishes Appeal Launch

The Christmas Wishes Appeal 2008 is calling on businesses and residents in Darwen, Blackburn and Hyndburn to help support their local charities this Christmas.

The organisers behind the Christmas Wishes are appealing for 'new toys', toiletries, non perishable foods and other gifts which will be handed out to charities and organisations in the run up to the festive period.

A series of collection points are being set up across the area — including The Giving Tree at the Mall in Blackburn; the town hall in Darwen; Lancashire Evening Telegraph and Cummins Mellor Recruitment, Milnshaw House, 161 Whalley Road, Accrington. The collection points will be open until December 5 and after that date the donations will be distributed among local charity groups.

The Christmas Wishes appeal is being organised by the Community and Business Partners (CBP), which is dedicated to bringing the private sector, public sector and voluntary organisations together.

““Local charities work hard to look after the needy in our community every day of the year. Many of them they rely on donations simply to survive and many are dedicated to children and families. At Christmas they need more help than ever. The Christmas Wishes Appeal is a wonderful way for employers and residents to give something back into the community,” says Andrea Goodall of CBP.

“Through the Christmas Wishes Appeal we will ensure any donations — from toys to tinned and packaged food and clothes and other gifts to go directly to the local charities. We will make it easy for people and companies to give by collecting the donations and then distributing them.”
