Spoof Profile Shows Dangers of Social Network Sites.

Jake Berry, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Rossendale and Darwen, has highlighted the risks of using social networking sites after a spoof profile was posted on Friends Reunited.

The profile stated that “Jake can now only be killed with the seven daggers of Meggado and listed his interests amongst other things as boogying.” The profile has now been removed from the web site.

Jake commented “Being a public figure you have to accept the fact that people like to have a joke, often at your expense. Politicians are particularly prone to this which to some extent goes with the territory.

“I enjoy using sites such as Facebook, but this case shows how easy it is for people to create fake profiles and to steal your identity.

“Although this profile is a joke at my expense, I hope it will make everyone more aware of the dangers of putting personal information on the web. I would urge all parents to ensure that their children do not make personal information available and leave their privacy settings closed.”

Jake Berry has his own blog which you can visit at www.jakeberry.org
