Final Touches Ahead Of Lights Switch On

Final preparations were underway today in Darwen ahead of Saturdays official Christmas lights switch on. The tree near the town centre on the A666 (pictured) was being decorated with lights whilst the final touches were being added to other decorations along the main road.

You may already have witnessed the decorated Christmas trees above your favourite town centre shop but the official lights switch on is being held on 22 November when local Paralymic silver medalist Felicity Coulthard will be special guest to switch on the lights.

The event runs from 3pm until 5.45pm and people attending the switch on will be treated to a fireworks show, a brass band, face painting, fancy dress competition and a donkey procession complete with festive lanterns.

Councillors have promised that this years festive lights will be better than ever after Darwen received a share of £20,000 of new lighting. Local traders are hoping the move will help boost town centre business by attracting more shoppers over the festive period.

Are you attending the switch-on?
