Blackburn with Darwen Council under fire for not releasing report

BLACKBURN with Darwen council bosses have come under fire for refusing to release a report into their £215 million partnership with a private company according to the Lancashire Telegraph. The local newspaper saw a request to see a five year review of the council's 12 year contract with Capita under the Freedom of Infrormation Act rejected.

Local Libe Dem councillor Simon Huggil showed support for the Lancashire Telegraphs investigation, saying “I am never happy when we don’t release information that is asked of us"

“My own attitude is that there must be an overwhelming case that stops the release of information. It can’t just be inconvenient or embarrassing."

The 12 year contract with Capita was signed by the council in 2001 and the Lancashire Telegraph first made the Freedom of Information Act request in April.
