Darwen residents vote today

Voting got underway today at polling stations across Darwen to decide whether to have a town council. Whilst the result of the vote won't ultimately decide the fate of a town council it will at least inform the borough how residents feel about it. It will then be up to the borough council to make the final decision.

The campaign for a town council has sparked a row between the political parties in Darwen and has even caused problems within the coalition running the town. Disagreements have risen about the costs involved with having a town council drawing comparison to the neighbourhood boards scheme has added further confusion. The contradicting information has left some residents confused about the costs and benefits of either the town council or the new neighbourhood boards scheme.

Polls are open until 8pm tonight and the count will be made later this evening.

What are your thoughts on the town council and Darwen & Rural Neighbourhood Board?
