A Facebook group has been started to raise awareness of the Poppy Appeal. The group, set up by Tom Castwell who is from the midlands, includes links to the British Legion website and the Poppy homepage.It also includes a Donate button although it hasn't currently been configured correctly by the group administrator. Once setup the site will keep a running total of all donations received by people who visit the Facebook group.
The group currently has over 2,000 members including people from Blackburn with Darwen. Closer to home the local British Legion branch is under increasing pressure to remain open as it is desparate need of new members.
The branch was started in 1921 and still managed to raise over £10,000 last year despite the increasing years if it's current members. Perhaps our own local group should look towards the Internet to help raise donations. We'd be interested to hear about any ideas you have to help the Darwen group this year. Please offer your support to this worthy cause.
