Cash secured to help study Belmont beauty spot

The "Blue Lagoon" (officially named Wards Reservoir) in Belmont is privately owned and is in need of repair estimated to cost around £1 million.

The reservoir has been enjoyed by locals for many years, especially during the summer but since the Belmont Bleach Works closed about three years ago it has been in need of some maintenance. The public continue to use the reservoir depite it falling into disrepair according to Coun Rigby who is part of a group researching the possibilities of restoring the area to it's former beauty.

The group, known as the Hordern Steering Group, has secured £60,000 to conduct a study on the Blue Lagoon and research options for restoration. The group also expects to apply for grants to enable the work to be carried out based on the recommendations.
