Sunnyhurst Woods to receive improved play area

Sunnyhurst Woods will receive £50,000 for new play area equipment after Blackburn with Darwen council was awarded funds to improve and build family playground areas in the borough.

The money will be used to improve existing play areas in the woods, namely those next to the kiosk. Currently there are only a few swings there which Dennis Gillibrand, president of Friends of Sunnyhurst Woods, described as 'poor'.

The current swings have been there for quite a number of years without much improvement and although families continue to use the woods there is very little for young children to play on and the current 'play area' will benefit from the cash injection.

The £50k will help improve the facilities making the woods, which was handed the Green Flag Award this year for providing an excellent open space to the public, even more attractive for young families.
