New Lidl supermarket making progress

The new Darwen supermarket is starting to take shape on Duckworth Street. Plans for the new site were originally unveiled over 12 months ago and traders in the town will believe it will be a welcome boost for the area.

The location of the site is key for many residents/business owners who indicate that it gives the town centre more balance, providing people with a reason to walk or drive to either side of the centre. With Sainsbury's on Hardman Way and the new Lidl located on the old Horizon Foam Holdings site between Vale Street and Robert Street they aren't in direct competition with each other either.

Both supermarkets offer their customers a different shopping experience and Lidl will offer an alternative discount food store. Currently customers have had to travek to Blackburn for the nearest Lidl Supermarket.

It's a step in the right direction when a major company chooses to invest in a town like Darwen, bringing more jobs to the town. It is hoped that the supermarket will boost local businesses and even encourage new businesses to open in the surrounding area.

Will you be shopping at Lidl?
